What Makes Fibrous Plaster Mouldings Fibrous?

Fibrous plaster mouldings are fibrous because they incorporate organic fibres such as jute (sometimes called hessian scrim) or milled grass into the plaster mix. These fibres reinforce the plaster and prevent the plaster mouldings from cracking or breaking. By mixing these fibres into the plaster, we are also able to create very intricate shapes and designs.

Common Elements Created Using Fibrous Plaster

Cornices

These are decorative mouldings that create an aesthetically pleasing transition from wall to ceiling, and vice versa.

Ceiling Roses

Clients often want very intricate ceiling roses, and fibrous plaster is the perfect choice to create them.

Panel mouldings

Panel mouldings are often used in stately homes as part of a comprehensive decor. They can extend from floor to ceiling and be quite elaborate.

Friezes

Plaster friezes are sometimes used to break up what would otherwise be
large, monotonous sections of wall. They may be simple or complex, approx 10 to
15 cm tall and may extend right around an entire room.

More

Other mouldings made with fibrous plaster include capitals,
corbels and archways.

Where Fibrous Plaster Mouldings Will Typically be Found

Fibrous plaster mouldings can often be found in theatres and music halls, where they are used to enhance the spectacle of the place, in public buildings such as museums and libraries, in historic buildings both public and private and in stately homes. They may be used equally effectively in building renovation or redesign projects or in new builds.
