Fine Art Mouldings

Fine art mouldings are decorative mouldings that typically take the form of strips used to create a visually pleasing transition between walls and ceilings and walls and floors. These decorative strips are also known by other names, including coving and baseboards. If your upcoming project will require fine art mouldings, make sure you enlist the services of Keaneys Interior & Exterior Moulding.

There are several different types of fine art mouldings.

Different Types of Fine Art Mouldings

Crown Mouldings

Crown mouldings are installed at the top of the wall and form a decorative transition to the ceiling. They can range from very simple to extremely intricate.

Skirting Boards

Skirting boards - widely known as baseboards - run along the bottom of the wall and create a nice transition to the floor. As a bonus, they also protect the base of the wall from damage.

Friezes

A frieze is an ornamental band that typically extends downward on the wall from the bottom of the cornice or coving. It is usually anywhere from 10 to 15 cm wide (sometimes a bit more or less) and may feature a simple design or one that is quite elaborate.

Chair Rails

The chair rail extends horizontally across a wall, typically at chair height. And that is not a coincidence. Chair rails were originally intended to protect walls from being damaged by people pushing chairs into them. Today their use is often purely decorative.
